Facebook directed 25 twenty-five percent less traffic to publishers in 2017, while Google increased its traffic by 17 seventeen percent, according to Parse.ly.
A complete turnaround starting from the beginning of 2017: In Jan. 2017, Facebook provided close to 40 percent of publisher s outside traffic sources; at the end of 2017 this has come down to 26 percent.
Google in contrast started the year at 34 percent, now contributes 44 percent of traffic. Parse.ly’s data comes from some 2,500 publishers that use its analytic s service, including such firms as Wall Street Journal, Time Inc., Mashable and Huffington Post.
