GOOGLE NEWS : SNIPPET LENGTH CHANGED

GOOGLE JUST ANNOUNCED IT WILL CHANGE THE SNIPPET LENGTH OF YOUR POSTED ARTICLES

For those who are not familiar :  Google in its latest announcement has informed the online community that it will change its snippet length from previous 160 characters to 360 characters.

What does it mean for the regular  publisher

It means that you should consider this to be of importance. Google gives you the opportunity to highlight a portion of your post or article to a maximum length of 360 characters.

All snippets will be changed accordingly whilst displayed in search results. The way to implement this new feature is by changing the metadata in your article.

SEO professionals will soon take notice of the new feature and will advice accordingly.

METADATA refers to a special entry in the HEAD section of your website.

IT looks like this

<meta content= ” YOUR TYPO 360 CHARACTERS ” name =”description” />

THIS RULE SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED IMMEDIATELY FOR ALL NEW ARTICLES POSTED.

If you are on WordPress and use any SEO enhancing application in form of a plugin it may tell you the snippet length is 160 characters.

This rule is no longer valid. You can now enter 360 characters in your meta information.

ADS TARGETERS PULL YOUR LOG IN DATA

Princeton University s researchers are such a bunch. It is mostly those Professors who get to the bottom of issues concerning our online security .

One such security issue is the one below explained.

Most web browser now come with a password manager tool, a lightweight version of the same service offered by plugins like Last Pass and 1 Password.

Do you have sufficient confidence to entrust an unknown company with our passwords ? Why should I give out my passwords to someone to store it for me when I can do the same easy and without the huge security risk.

INTUITION IS POSSIBLY THE STRONGEST FACTOR TO KEEP YOU AWAY FROM DANGER

( LEARNED THAT YEARS AGO )

According to new research from Princeton s Center for Information Technology Policy, those password managers are being exploited ( here it goes ) as a way to track users from site to site. Scripts are being used to extract data.

TAKE THIS FOR STARTERS

The scripts work by injecting invisible login forms in the background of the web page and scooping up whatever the browsers auto fill into the available slots.

The information received can then be used as a persistent ID to track users from page to page, a potentially valuable tool in targeting advertising.

CALL FOR FAST ACTION

Sites that take 1 min and more to load are going to be down graded.

If you still run an outdated web page then it s now time to change your site to structured data in the required format.

What has already been noted by major data collection centers is, namely that traffic from google exceeds that of Facebook by a significant amount.

Facebook directed 25 twenty-five percent less traffic to publishers in 2017, while Google increased its traffic by 17 seventeen percent, according to Parse.ly.

A complete turnaround starting from the beginning of 2017:  In Jan. 2017, Facebook provided close to 40 percent of publisher s outside traffic sources; at the end of 2017 this has come down to 26 percent.

Google in contrast  started the year at 34 percent, now contributes 44 percent of traffic. Parse.ly’s data comes from some 2,500 publishers that use its analytic s service, including such firms as Wall Street Journal, Time Inc., Mashable and Huffington Post.

The main reason for this – for web traffic significant changes – Facebook is constantly updating its news feed algorithm and any changes to the way Facebook surfaces stories could have far-reaching effects on everyone who is publishing to the web.

Last year, for example, fb altered its algorithm to give more priority to posts from friends and family over that of common publishers.

Instant Articles, a previously high rated feature on fb, whereby some content was directly published to send more traffic to users, with the aim to send more readers to the base site as well, is less significance now.

Algorithm on fb that give more priority to native video over text links might also have a negative effect on traffic.
