I continue to narrate from our friend’s journey to the East, the silk road, and forget our articles vehement in the process.
There is so much excitement on our part we are almost stuck.

After a long drive through the Turkmen steppe – where we also saw the first camels, or better: dromedaries – we reached just as night fell Mary, a more significant city in Turkmenistan.
It’s not so easy to find a hotel because there are only Turkmen labels and large buildings are mostly government buildings, museums or other official houses.
You-song has made out a grand hotel, and because it is cheap and good, we stay here for two nights before we drive to Turkmenabad and then over the border to Uzbekistan. The reception by a girls ‘and boys’ committee was overwhelming.
